Itunes 7.7 and windows Vista not working!

Hello,

I have been plagued with iTunes and Vista problems ever since i got it on my Pc over 9 months ago!!

I had hoped that a multimillion company like apple most successful in this nich of the market would want to keep its customers and provide us with up to date valid software but NO..... 9moths later same problem!

Every time i uninstall and install a newER verson of iTunes i get the following sequale of errors:

1. Firstly a box appears with a sliding bar with " Please wait while windows configures iTunes "

2. When this finsihed another box appears " iTunes stopped working "

3. When u click OK (the only option) in the task bar on the bottom right a small bubble appears with the statment " Data execution prevention has closed iTunes "

Now i have been battling with this problem for some time and have tried many things like changing version of iTunes (clean uninstall and new install etc)

I have also located that if i try to start up Quicktime i get the same error box this time reading " Quicktime has stopped wotking "

I have uninstalled Quicktime and installed a new clean copy to no avail.....

Appart from throwing my iPod in the Thames and getting a samsung mp3 player, i dont see any solution... anyone have any ideas?

My Thanks in advance!

"Data execution prevention has closed iTunes " - are you running any firewall or AV software?

Try following the steps outlined on this webpage for disabling DEP (but do it JUST for iTunes, and only if you downloaded iTunes from Apple's website):
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/65790-dep-turn-off-programs.html

Make sure its for "Turn DEP On for All Programs and Services Except for the Ones you Select" and click Add: and iTunes.exe should reside in C:\Program Files\iTunes, at least it does on my computer.

Yeah, for a multiBILLION dollar company they seem to be chasing their tails at times. I cannot stand having to pay for firmware updates, only to find they never fixed any of the quite apparent bugs I ASSUMED they would fix. And now my iPod is slower than ever! Instead of new features, which aren't that impressive to begin with, why not fix some simple programming mishaps?

Anyways, off topic. Let me know if the above doesn't help.

Hi there,

Just bought a new notebook come with vista home basic Service Pack 1 32bits. I have download the latest version of itunes(7.7.1.11) from apple.com, but vista not allow itunes and quicktime runs in vista. It shows 'iTunes stopped working need to closed" or " QuickTime stopped working need to closed" And I even can't un-install QuickTime now.
Firstly,
I'hv tried http://www.nadacollar.com/2007/08/vista-it...problem-solved/. It doesn't work for my vista version.
Secondly,
I'hv disabled DEP, it doesn't work.
Thirdly,
I'hv disabled UAC as well, but it doesn't work.
Anyone can help me to solve this problem?
Thanks a million~!

I do not have any Firewall except the vista standard one.

I also tried to disable DEP however it gives a warning message that "DEP cannot be dissabled for iTunes or Quicktime"

Why are so many people having problems with this and Apple have not solved it despite several versions of itunes comming out from 7.1 to 7.7 still NO FIX..... come on apple need to wake up!

Any help will be much appreciated Thank you in advance!

+Data execution prevention has closed iTunes+

This is your problem, you need to turn off DEP

Disable DEP in Vista:

1. Click Start
2. Click All Programs
3. Click Accessories
4. Right Click on Command Prompt
5. Left click on Run as Administrator
6. Click the Allow button if it asks you for permission
7. Type or copy and paste this into the command prompt window:

bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff

Running it as an admin should let you turn it off for QT and iTunes.

I liked my iPod greatly, but after the 2.0 update, it's pathetically slow. This transcends Microsoft, this is about poorly developed software. A fantastic interface is worthless if the device in question gets more sluggish after every patch and constantly contradicts the end user (when I move the volume slider UP, why does it bounce back to the same spot it was before?)

Anyone heard of defect management solutions? May I recommend Bugzilla or Trac?

I have a PC running 64 bit Vista and have been using iTunes 7.7.1.11 WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS until today , where it would become unresponsive after starting it! What a pain! Vista would not let me turn off DEP either, even as the administrator. Now it is working all of a sudden again. I don't know if this is the answer, but what I did was to run msconfig from the Run command in Start. I made sure on boot up that all my services were started and that my Norton's firewall was not blocking iTunes. Windows firewall is OFF, so I'm not running 2 different firewalls on the same PC. That's it for me!

iTunes is a free program - it doesn't make good business sense for Apple to hire people to troubleshoot problems on Windows hardware - they'd have to hire hundreds, if not thousands to remote in to PCs and spend time fixing this kind of thing!

If you are getting that message about data execution prevention, you need to get DEP turned off, come **** or high water.
How about turning off UAC, can you even do that?
And with UAC turned off, can you disable DEP?

How to Disable UAC

Remember you can always turn these back on to keep your system "safe" - this is just a test to get iTunes working.

managed to get to an apple store today, sat with a fantastically helpful chap and we went through everything, it turns out to be a problem with quicktime and a ACE.mega.Codec pack that i had installed!

uninstall everything including the stuff in program files and system 32 files get rid of the codec pack, reboot it, reininstall itunes and bobs your uncle!
