Question

General Error (49) when exporting to Quicktime from FCE HD

I don't know what a "General Error (49)" is or how to fix it.
Any insight that can help me with a successful export would be appreciated.

Quicksilver 867(1.6 ghz), Mac OS X (10.4.8), Radeon 9000pro, 20"cinema & 15"studio displays, SeriTek SATA controllers w/740gb

Not sure Steve , but I suspect an FCE, QuickTime, OS tangle somewhere.

Can you outline your specific configuration?

I'm using OS 10.4.11/FCE HD 3.5.1/Quicktime Pro 7.5 and I'm writing to an external FW drive. My sequence is rather long but I don't know if that makes a difference. There's about 15GB free on the drive.

Right there could well be a problem.
DV uses about 13 gig an hour other formats even more. If the Timeline is over an hour you will have to sort something regards space. Over full drives are not a good idea in any case. Many consider drives 80% full to be just that.

Another option to explore is a faulty render file/s. Try deleting them and re-render if the drive option fails you.

I did find a -49 error but General Error 49 is something different.

Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place?

Come to think of it, I bet it's an error code specific to FCE and not an OS system error.

I installed a larger system drive which let me free up 500GBs for video and scratch.
Doing this solved solved my export problem. Exporting to QT on my old drive took about an hour, and now it takes less than ten minutes for the same file. I sure did underestimate what available space does for performance.
