Songs start skipping at about 10-11 seconds into songs
On my XP machine, I have some songs that start skipping at about 10 seconds in. I played my shared songs from my Mac, and no skips. I don't know if it's just some songs, but it seems odd that it happens at the same time for each song.
If anyone else has experienced this, please let me know.
A friend of mine started having the same problems last night after burning some audio cds in itunes. When she was burning cds, she played some tracks and they would skip after 10-15 sec into the song. I'll try some of the suggestions here.
This happened to my and my girlfriend's computer...it's horrible...the direct sound fix is just a bandaid...it doesn't fix the root cause...and it doesn't work all the time...itunes is eating up all of my memory. BOOOOOOO!
I got the exact same problem. Updated everything, didn't help.
Could be iTunes eating my memory, but according to the task manager neither the page file nor the amount of physical memory used seem to grow, and I've got plenty of RAM left. Also, the problem doesn´t at all seem to depend on severe processor or ram use. I've got nearly 12 gigs of music. Perhaps iTunes can't handle that. Anyone?
ITunes can handle your library. I have a tad over 70 gigs of music right now, and I'll be ripping about 10-15 GBs more. Thank god that will be the last of it. I've ripped just over 900 CD's thus far, and I just want this madness to end!!!
I have no problems on my Mac. The skips were on my PC. Who knows what caused them. Again, I can't say if it was music that was already on the PC, or music I ripped back then. I'll have to check.
I switched from directsound to the other option, and that seemed only to make it skip at the 10 second mark rather than 13, and last a little longer.
songs all play fine in winamp/media player. what's doing?
So, I fixed my friend's computer by doing a system restore back about 1 month then reinstalled iTunes. Now it plays fine. I have no clue what the actual problem was, though. sorry
man, you shouldn't have to update anything, I'm quite surprised to see how many people are STILL having these problems, and don't listen to any clowns who advise you to change anything with your PCs - THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH YOUR PC, iTUNES DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY
how many of us are there who have MusicMatch, WinAmp, WindowsMediaPlayer, and the like, working fine for playback, and it's only iTunes that isn't working?
I listed to these pundits, upgraded to v4.8 (against my will, being a techie and there being no good explanation for why iTunes suddenly stopped working). No change, iTunes skips on playback and there is nothing wrong with my PC.
That was months ago, has nothing changed? Does anyone know if Apple doing anything about this? Do they not care about loosing market share?
It really puts a tarnish on that immaculate white facade of the Apple brand to have such shoddy software.
I don't know a lot about computers so have struggled through many discussion emails to find out why my iTunes playback is skipping. I have tried various suggestions but to no avail. I can play all my music perfectly through Windows media player and Real time player- no skipping there.
So I am pleased to read that you are outspoken and practical enough to state that perhaps iTunes has an inherent problem and that Apple needs to "get its finger out" and start to rectify things. Keep me posted! Meanwhile I will stop worrying, so long as my Ipod music plays OK. JudyK
