Change Preview Default For Saved Items to "Desktop" from "Downloads"????

Preview doesn't have a default location for saved items. when you try to save a new item it will offer to save it in the last saved location.

you can't hose anything by deleting a file from the Library in your home directory. all those files are replaceable and will be recreated on the next application launch. deleting them is a standard troubleshooting procedure. I'm quite sure this file is the culprit. you can try using preview in another account (create one if you don't have it) and preview will work correctly there.

ok, that's not normal. quit Preview and trash the file homedirectory/library/preferences/com.apple.preview.plist. start preview and see if it behaves normally now.
