USB HUB not charging 3G iPhone

I have a Belkin powered USB hub. I just noticed a few days ago that the apple sync cable when connected to the US Hub does not charge the iphone. In fact the battery seems to drain during the sync process

Not sure why it does not work, but thought I would let you all know, especially those who might be connecting their iphone to a usb hub and are not getting good battery life

Little Blackbook, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

A lot of people have reported that hubs don't work well with the iPhone. Apple recommends plugging the iPhone directly in a powered USB 2.0 port on the computer.

Does the hub have a power supply. Most hubs come with external power supplies. Some devices do not need the external power supply because they draw only a small ammount of current; however, other devices like the iPhone draw more current and need a power supply for a USB hub
