Oracle Calendar support

Where is the Oracle Calendar support for syncing with the iPhone?

Synthesis has told our University (as well as the general public) that they have calendar syncing working with their SyncML app for the iPhone, but Apple isn't allowing the calendar data sync capability on the App Store.

Short of jailbreaking the phone to run 'unapproved' apps, the only option I have is a manual sync via the Oracle Calendar client for OS X and exporting to a vCalendar file to import into iCal to then sync with the iPhone via iTunes. Not exactly optimal, nor convenient.

Mac OS X (10.5)

I also am eagerly seeking a way to have calendar events sync'ed to and from my iPhone 3G and Oracle Calendar. I'm disappointed to hear this report that Apple is blocking the SyncML app from the App Store. I wonder if the issue is perceived competition with MobileMe, or something else. I don't have a choice about which enterprise calendar application my institution uses. I wonder if there are other enterprise calendar applications that are supported by apps on the App Store.

You know what, I didn't think about using SyncJe for Mac. A couple weeks ago I signed up for a MobileMe account using the free trial (now extended to mid-December). I was doing some manual exporting from the Oracle Calendar Mac Client, to manually import into iCal, which was syncing against MobileMe, which pushes to my iPhone. I was using MobileMe more for the direct Calendaring and Contacts management features and am starting to like it.

But now that I am using MobileMe a bit more frequently, revisiting the SyncJe client for Mac, it seems like a novel solution. I'll give it a whirl tomorrow and see how it works out.

Well, I tried the SyncJe for Mac trial and it was horrendous. It was only pulling the current days events, plus 6 days prior to the current day, and 7 days forward of the current day.

The app doesn't allow configuring the date ranges for the sync. I emailed Nexthaus and they said configuring the date ranges isn't a feature, but that it's supposed to pull all data from the Oracle Calendar. It certainly didn't work that way.

Also, it had issues where it would result in duplicates after subsequent automatic syncs. The Apple iCal calendar would end up having dupes for all events.

I was very disappointed with the SyncJe for Mac application and certainly won't be purchasing it in it's current state.

Hi

I didn't have any dupe problems. I was told that at my place I can fix the date range by specifying in the options that the SyncML Server Foldername should be something like

./calendar/events?/dr(-30,120)

that gets everything 30 days before and 120 after.

I found it put a few things at the wrong time so I had to use the Force Slow Sync option a few times.

Looking for this as well.

The Oracle Calendar -> Oracle Connector for Outlook -> Outlook 200X -> iTunes -> iPhone route has never worked for me.

I've tried several versions of the OCFO with no success and some spectacular failures (duped meetings in Oracle Calendar for everyone invited to the original meeting, deleted meetings, lost contacts, etc, etc).

Does anyone have any updated information on the release of the updated SyncML app that will allow me to sync my business required Oracle calendar with the iphone 3g? I am exporting to a vcalendar file, then importing in iCal, then taking out duplicates, then syncing, but of course, this only works one way and is a real pain. I have missed several important meetings because I am so accustomed to being able to sync. I keep hearing rumors that any day the SyncMl application will be upgraded to sync Oracle calendars with the iphone calendar, but I have no idea about the reality of those rumors. I understand it is Apple that is delaying it. I am considering going back to my Treo. If the release will be soon, I'll stick with my iphone, but if it is going to be a long time, then it is back to the treo for me. If anyone has any information that will help me make that decision, I'd appreciate it. And, if anyone knows how users can influence Apple's decision, I'll sign up! Thanks.

I would keep an eye on

http://www.synthesis.ch/iphone.php?lang=e&lay=desk

and

http://nexthaus.com/productsbiphone.html

Note that the first app does not sync calendar items as the developers SDK currently doesn't allow that and the second does sync calendar items but requires you to `jailbreak' the iPhone. I have no rumours of whether Apple will or will not change things so that access to the calendar items is allowed.

People at my work are using the nexthaus.com SyncJe for Mac OS X to sync Oracle and iCal and then iCal syncs to iPhone in the standard ways. I haven't got an iPhone yet but am using SyncJe with iCal. It is OK but a bit buggy. Most problems go away if you create a new calendar in iCal to sync to but I have some unresolved daylight savings issue. Use with care and backup iCal regularly.
