is iphoto 08 an update?

i feel silly asking this, but i want to be sure.

i have iphoto 6.0.6. there are no current software updates i need to download, according to my computer.

so, is i photo 08 a whole new version that a mac-user who has this native to her system must buy? ibook with os x 10.4.11 1.42 g4 1.5 ram

No, iPhoto 08 is an up grade. That is it has entirely new features added to iPhoto 6. You can read about them here:

When you purchase the iLife apps (or they come with your Mac) you are entitled to free updates - these are usually bug fixes - for that version. But upgrading to a new version - which includes added features - requires a purchase.
