iTunes install in Domain using GPO

This is a copy from Installing iTunes. I was asked to post this here:

I would like to publish iTunes as well as Quicktime using Group policies in our Active Directory. This seems to be close to impossible as far as I can tell. Is this possible, or will it be possible in the future? Trying to point to the .MSI fails because it must be called by Setup as far as I can tell.

Thanks in advance!

Matthew

I don't know much about group policies or active directory or what have you, but this should do an unattended install from what I can find:

iTunesSetup.exe /S /V"ISSETUPDRIVEN=0 SILENT_INSTALL=1 INSTALL DESKTOPSHORTCUTS=1 ASSUME QTDEFAULTS=0 ASSUME MEDIADEFAULTS=0 ALLUSERS=1 /QN"

ISSETUPDRIVEN=0 tells setup not to use the external setup settings file.
ASSUME MEDIADEFAULTS=0 doesn't make iTunes the default media player in your system.
ASSUME QTDEFAULTS=0 doesn't make QuickTime your default media player (installs it though for the iTunes will not work without it).
ALLUSERS=1 Installs iTunes for all users.
SILENT_INSTALL=1 Installs silently.
INSTALL DESKTOPSHORTCUTS=1 Do I really need to explain every switch? 😉

Matthew - have you tried the Discover utility in Windows? I have used this to create custom MSIs for my domain for ages...

This is also how I publish iTunes in my domain...

There is a knowledgebase article that might help.

Hope this works for you.

EDIT: Forgot to mention. Is the domain running a GPO for Folder Redirection? If so, make sure that if you have network connectivity problems that you solve the problems FIRST. iTunes saves it's library information files in the "My Music" folder in "My Documents". Even if you change the music folder location in iTunes options, these files are still saved to "My Music". Network connectivity problems can result in the library files not being saved, meaning you have to re-load your music files every time... just a thought.
