itunes cant find original file. do you want to relocate it?
In a nutshell, itunes wont play anything in the library. none of the files can be located. I have tried 're'locating the files before. this isn't the first time this has happened, but the first time it was only a handful of songs. this time its more than 10k songs. I don't have the time or the patience to 're'locate every song.
Brian I am experiencing the very same thing and I totally understand your frustration! I am soooo tired of seeing those exclamation points in front of my song titles. I, too, have 'relocated' songs only to find that itunes cannot locate them later. Someone asked me if I had moved my file locations on my computer - that this might explain the problem. But most of the songs have not been touched. I have a pc with XP.
Please can someone tell me how to fix this problem? I try to make a playlist and when I try to move songs to the playlist, I get the message that itunes cannot locate the original file. Why can't it?
Do you have any other music software on your computer, guys? Is it possible that the 'other' software is re-arranging your music making iTunes 'lose' it?
If other people use your computer maybe they're doing it and don't even realize?
Yes I do have other music software. I add all my music to my computer using Cakewalk. Cakewalk lets me rip music off of my old vinyl albums and cassettes, as well as, CDs. Then I go to iTunes and add the music files manually. I can see that if I move a file it might mix up iTunes, but I'm having trouble with files that I have not touched. I don't know enough about how music software works to know if Cakewalk is rearranging. Does anyone else out there know?
I also have windows media player, but don't really use it.
