Iphone and exchange activesync issues

I have been reading a few dozen of these post that people are having issues with there iphone sync with exchange. I am TOO!.
For some i can get into owa and from the iphone safaria.

The iphone was able verfy the ssl certificate, but nothing is syncing with mail server

My network infrastructure.
1. Clustered mail server . Running exchange server 2003.
2. firewall- port 443 has been verified to be open and able to acces owa from iphone safari
3. I have NO isa setup in my network.
4. Called SSL verisign company and everything checked out to be fine.
5. virtual folders have been verified to be correct.
6. checked dns report no errors.
7. AD exchange feature mobile services and protcols was verfied to all on.
8. turned off wifi
9. checked all creditals.

And it just won't push anything. I have come to the conclusion that is either IIS or Iphone is using a multiply protocol ports to access the exchange. But i don't know i need HELP

Simple troubleshooting steps to start with:
1. Check your version of Exchange. Must be at least 2003 w/SP2.
2. Check your security certificate. If you go to your "https://webmail.yourdomain.com/owa" or "https://webmail.yourdomain.com/exchange" and receive a certificate error, you may want to look into an external certificate from a recognized CA. I used SBS through my registrar.
3. Check to ensure your "Front-End" and "Back-End" server are not both requiring SSL. That will cause issues with OMA.

1. How many Exchange servers in your environment, or is it that single clustered Exchange 2003 server?

2. Where does the configuration fail? Does it tell you "Exchange account verification failed"? Or, does it say it configured successfully but nothing syncs?

3. If you have only that single cluster... from the active node: Take a look at the IIS log files (from server: Start > Run > logfiles > W3SVC).. do you see any connections from the iPhone (each com line will have "iPhone" or "Appl" listed)? If you have front-end / back-end, then do that from the front-end.

4. Take a look at the application log on your Exchange front-end, or the active node in the cluster... do you see any errors or warnings pertaining to ActiveSync?

5. Do Windows Mobile devices work against your server? Need to try an emulator, then try this blog: http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2007/09/17/447033.aspx

You can always open a support case with Microsoft support and they can assist you on this as well.

We are having the same issue.

our Windows Mobile devices work just fine, but we cannot get the iPhone to work. The device does work if we connect it to our network using VPN, and then we are able to synchronize mail.

But when connecting from the Internet without VPN, it fails. We do have a Microsoft ISA server which is used to route the traffic in through the firewall.

The error message on the iPhone states that it is unable to authenticate the user.

There is an issue with \ActiveSync Virtual Directory trying to communicate with the \Exchange Virtual Directory on a required SSL Connection. In a Front End / Back End server configuration the Back End Server is not setup with SSL so that is why there are no issues when you have this configuration. This is expensive method and not needed if you only have a single Exchange Server in your environment.

Follow the instruction in the link to KB817379. This issue happens when there is no FRONT END Exchange Server.

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=817379

You can still have SSL on your OWA site, but you need to configure ActiveSync Virtual Directory with another Virtual Directory that does not require SSL

Once I followed the steps in the KB Article I was able to sync our first/Test iPhone 2.0 3G

Also look at your Event Log on the Exchange server for Active Sync Errors
one of the Event ID: 3029 which is what pointed me to the KB article.

Good Luck.

Yes this is correct. Microsoft support team was able to resolve the issue by recreating my virtual directories. Becuase it was corrupted. All you have to do is delete the directories and recreate them. Make sure you backup a copy for you self in iis. after deleting them. you must reboot. then recreate check all appropriate permissions.
