I'm afraid I have to add to the list of problems with Safari for Mac. For the past few days Safari has hung on me when a new tab is opened by another application, or when I shortcut to a new tab. I have followed most of the tips in this forum but it still happens. The crash report I got just now after I created a new account and opened safari then opened a new tab is VERY long. This is the first problem I've had with safari in years. Any tips from the experts welcome!
Sorry, but that link is only for you; nobody else can access it. You need to post the crash report in your topic. It didn't work before because you were trying to post the whole thing, which we don't need. We only need:
• Header
• The section for the Thread that actually crashed (which is listed near the bottom of the header)
• The section farther down labeled "Binary Images".
OK - that was supposed to be a public notebook. I've pasted the info below, but can't find a section called Binary Images, unless the section I've included is it.
Restart Safari and see if it crashes; if not, quit Safari and move one Input Manager back into the InputManagers folder and launch Safari again. If it crashes, remove that item and note that it conflicts with Safari. If not, quit Safari and move another one back into the folder and restart Safari; repeat this process until you've eliminated the ones that crash Safari or have confirmed that none of them crash Safari.
OK. Done. None of the items caused Safari to crash. I gave the browser a real beating with tabs, opening multiples and closing them, etc, and all is well. Anything else you suggest or wait and see if it re-occurs?
If all is well now, I'd leave well enough alone unless it happens again. If it does, you can try these (one at a time):
1. Quit Safari if it's running.
2. Go to Home/Library/Preferences and remove the com.apple.Safari.plist file. Restart Safari and setup all your preferences again. If it doesn't crash, delete the old com.apple.Safari.plist file.
If it continues to crash after this first troubleshooting procedure:
1. Quit Safari if it's running.
2. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari and empty that folder. Restart Safari and see if it crashes. If not, then leave well enough alone for now. If it does crash, post a new topic if this one is closed, with details of the problem and the steps you took so far to resolve the issue.
