Hi all, I updated to the new iPhone 2.0.1 software as soon as it was released and my iPhone is a little better. The keyboard still lags slightly on SMS but only occasionally and the contacts are still sluggish at first and then they scroll quite well after. The update itself though, is it an official one that we should all be downloading and using? its not as if Apple have advertised it in a big way and with the feedback i've read so far on these boards its made some iPhones worse or there's been no change at all. Don't get me wrong I love Apple and my iphone 3G is the Mutts Nuts but i thought apple released software and updates that were tried and tested before release which makes me wonder if there's another one coming and the one we all have (2.0.1) is not really for general release. Fingers crossed.
There is always another one coming, we just don't know when.
When the next one is released, some will say it fixed there problems, others will say it ruined their iphone and can't wait for the next update to correct all of the problems.
If you selected Check For Update under the Summary tab for your iPhone sync preferences or were prompted by iTunes that an update is available for your iPhone that you downloaded and installed via iTunes, how could the update be anything other than an official update for the iPhone that was released by Apple?
but surly without selecting Check for update no-one would know it was there, i only found out by looking on Google for people who had the same problems with the lag for the keyboard on SMS and some one mentioned an UPDATE. After that every man and his dog was downloading it, and its only on these boards where the update is mentioned.
The iPhone is checked for an available update via iTunes automatically when connected every week I believe.
Regardless, when provided via iTunes it can't be anything but official.
Apple usually doesn't have a media event or big announcement around the release of OS X updates, security updates, Apple software updates, and the same for iPhone firmware updates. OS X includes an automatic check for available updates, as do most Apple applications including iTunes and iTunes automatically checking for iPod and iPhone updates on a designated schedule when an iPod or iPhone are connected.
I see, so if I hadn't have searched for the update iTunes would have picked it up eventually? I just assumed that with the release of the iPhone 3G being such a big thing any update so soon afterwards would be atleast mentioned on their website, but hey ho, the update works and I can't be happier. Thanks for the replies.
