I Can't Find My Address Book

Hi. Welcome. Have you tried using spotlight? The top right of the screen, the icon is a magnifying glass. Just click it and type "Address Book"

By the way, may i ask if you have iCal? If you do, open it, click Window in the menu bar, then go to Address Book.

all default applications included Address Book should be located in the Applications folder at the top level of your hard drive.

did you try spotlight search for it as suggested by the other poster? if spotlight can't find it it's really gone. you can reinstall it from the leopard install DVd using [Pacifist|http://www.charlessoft.com>. however, I see that you mentioned that you bought this computer used. the first thing to do in such situation is to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the entire OS. I would strongly recommend doing that.

Do you have the original installation discs that would have come with the machine when it was originally purchased? If so, you can reinstall Address Book from that disk; if not, you should ask that teacher for them or else you'll need to buy a retail version of the operating system.

as i said you need to reinstall the OS. then you can rename the computer as you like. you should also demand the original disk that came with the computer from the original owner.

You could change the name, but I'd just reformat the entire drive and install a new copy of OS X that doesn't have any of his information associated with it. He should have given you the disc(s), since he surely knows they aren't good for anything but that machine. I'd ask him for those ASAP.

No, it's not hard; it's very easy, since most of what you do is wait for it to finish. You insert the disc while the computer is running and restart to boot from the disc (you hold down the 'C' key when you first hear the startup sound and wait for about 5 seconds after you see the gray spinning gear, and when it boots, just follow the steps it gives you (do not choose Archive & Install), then wait for it to finish and give you the Welcome music and ask you to register (which you can get out of by Quitting that portion when it comes up).

Is this the original disk that came with the computer when it was originally purchased? If not, it won't work to install Mac OS X. What does it say on the disk itself (be very specific)?

Hmmm…is this disk from a large retail box with a picture on it for OS X 10.5, or did these disks come in a small, squarish box that folds out? Have you tried booting from the disk and holding just the Option key down until you see some squarish graphic buttons to select a startup disk? If not, try that to see if it will work.

If you do get the buttons on the screen, one is for your hard disk, and the other is for the DVD of 10.5 so that's what you want to select if you can. And you want to do a Clean Install.
