Error -6753 when trying to find my base station

I'm working off a Dell computer with a wireless card in it, and it can't find my Airport Extreme Base Station. I've tried going to "File" and selecting Configure Other..., but when I put in the IP address and the password for the base station it gives me the Error -6753.

What is this error and how do I get my PC to recognize my wireless base station? It's been configured on my mac and to all appearances it's working perfectly, but I just can't get the PC to connect to it wirelessly. HELP!

Some additional information:

The desktop currently "running" the airport express is a Mac Intel Mini and it's hard-wired into the base station so it's not having any issues connecting (wirelessly at least).

The Dell is approximately 4-5 years old, running Windows XP SP2 and the Airport Utility loaded straight from the disk that came with the Airport Extreme. The Dell is using a 2Wire wireless card that previously had no problems on two Linksys and 2Wire Homeportal wireless systems that were set up in my house and where I worked. The Mac Mini also worked on the 2Wire home system previously.

I can get the mac mini to find the base station and the wireless network created by it (using WPA/WPA2) and connects perfectly fine. Neither the Dell's network connections nor the airport utility on the Dell are finding the base station's network, and no amount of rescanning finds it. The base station is working fine to all appearances.

I'm going to try downloading the Utility from the Apple website today at school but that's not going to help me until I get home at 5pm. Help!

Mkay I downloaded and installed the WPA/WPA2 SP2 hotfix, and it still doesn't work.

Additionally - I have no idea what or where to find the TKIP and AES things...where do I change those settings on my laptop?

P.S - Please don't assume I know all the acronyms :\ While I can work through a computer, navigate things, and fix them fairly well when basic software issues go wrong, I am TOTALLY ignorant in the subject area of networks and troubleshooting when it comes to networks.

It has been awhile since I've used XP, but you should have a wireless icon in the bottom right hand corner of your computer screen. Looks like a little computer. Should be next to the clock.

1. Right-click on that icon and look for "View Available Wireless Networks"
2. Click the Change advanced settings link on the left-hand side of the window.
3. Click the Wireless Networks tab at the top of the properties window.
4. Click the Add button under the Preferred Networks section.
5. Type in <your network name> in the network name field. Set the Network Authentication to WPA and the Data Encryption to TKIP.

6. If you are entering the encryption here, make sure that you are using the code rather than the passphrase that you typed in. PCs and MACs don't "speak the same language", so to speak. You must look for the network equivalent password on the base station and copy that to your PC.

No, that's not the MAC address. When you type in your passkey, it should also generate a number/letter combination. It should look like: 7adwQ9niDgCeq19gdj4E1z. Yours won't be that, but something similar. That is the key that you should copy to your PC, not "passkey". When integrating MAC and PCs you have to use the actual code, and not the "password" that you typed in. You will find it here:

1. Open Airport Utility
2. <click> Manual Setup
3. <look top tabs> <click> Base Station
4. <click> Equivalent Network Password
5. You will see two types of alphanumeric codes: ASCII and HEX. I use the ASCII, but if that doesn't work, you might try the other. Unfortunately you can't copy and paste from there, so you will have to do a screen shot, or copy the number out and type into your PC.

We're getting there! I followed the instructions you gave but can't find the last two. I clicked on Base Station but can't find anything that says "Equivalent Network Password". This is all off of the utility on the macintosh desktop, should I be using the utility on the pc laptop hardwired into the modem?
