iPod Dock Connector to 2 RCA Stereo Phono Audio Cable

when I connect my iphone 3g to my stereo using iPod Dock Connector to 2 RCA Stereo Phono Audio Cable the sound still comes through the iphone speaker and not the stereo unit.

is this normal?

It works ok with altec lansing speakers?

If you live near a walgreens or Wal-mart you can get an adapter cable that will plug into the headphone jack and then into your stereo in the RCA connections. I use this in the car to my radio. Works great!
