HP Scanner drivers for Mac OSX

Hi iFriends,
HP does not make OSX scanner drivers available online for older scanners. They are available for purchace from HP, but I don't think I want to do that... Is there a generic scanner driver, or open source driver that will run on OSX, or place that makes them available? The scanner is HP 5470c. I really should update the scanner, but it works perfectly on XP Pro...but..I want to use it with my MacBook Pro... For now I am a fish without water.....any thoughts on how to deal with this? Thanks! Joe

MacBook Pro, 2.2 Gz, 15" screen, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

If it's a TWAIN compatible scanner then you could try the Open Source SANE drivers.

You might be better off buying the software you need. If not the HP drivers (which usually are freely downloadable from HP's site) or you could try VueScan if it's compatible with your scanner.
