okay here is a question...I have a powerbook, g4, 1.5 GHz, 1.25 GB of RAM. I am running Leopard. I use a Seagate FreeAgent Pro 750 GB for all my video editing. Some imports that I have been doing lately are all choppy. I took an old file that I knew worked...it's playback was choppy. I saved the file on a different external HD...same thing. I saved it on my local HD (80GB with 25 GB of free space), same thing. What do you think is up?
Powerbook G4 PowerPC 1.5 12",
Mac OS X (10.5.4),
iPhone, Apple TV
The same thing has started happening to my videos, so I bought at 1T external. The problem continues. I have also tried all the different sizes in the Viewer etc, with the same jerky results. Suggestions anyone??
Could you give us just a little information like what kind of drive is it exactly and what format you;re working in and what you're doing in the timeline, stuff like that.
Speaking for myself, I have converted from MPEG2 to DV using Streamclip. My extra drive is and Iomega 1TB PRESTIGE™ USB 2.0 DESKTOP HARD DRIVE. It happens with only one file open in the timeline, even a very short clip. And it happens even before anything is added to the time line.
Oh, I wish I had known that before ordering this. However, I suffered from the choppy video before getting this new Iomega, and I suspected it was because I was banging up against the top of the MacBookPro hard drive. If USB devices are not supported what would you suggest???
Thank you Tom... however I am still concerned about the choppy video I have with the files that are on the hard-drive of my MacBookPro3.1. Right now I have 55+ gigs of head room.

Took my laptop to the apple store...they seem to think it is a hardware issue, after running it through a series of tests. Sent it off to apple for repair.
