EXS24: what about real samples?

Is it possible to record a single sound, for instance a tick on a tin can, program it in the EXS24 and play a complete scale with it? A sampler should be able to do this I think, but I fear that "sampler" in the EXS24 sampler does not match that idea.
In case editing samples and using them as a new "patch or sound" in the EXS24 is not possible, how can this be done?
I'm a Logic Express 7 user, so I know a bit about the EXS24. I'm getting a friend of mine to switch back to Apple and to go for Logic Studio, as to me it is a real killer app, especially for its price.
As my hardware does not match the requirements anymore, I can't answer all of his questions regarding the possibilities of Logic Studio. (so I can't read the manual).

yes you can. Take your new recorded sample (audio file) go to the ESX24 then go to edit, next step is to choose (new) in the menu. Next step choose new zone and then find your sample on your hard drive, choose it then save the sample file with a name so that you can locate it in the sampler. By doing so all settings will be saved. i hope this helped. Also go to macprovideo.com they have just about everything on logic express to pro 8 you will not be disappointed.
