2nd Time in less than 2 days I've had to restore my iPhone 3G and lost all my data... I'm so angry I don't know of the words to express my thoughts at this moment.. My stupid 3G iPhone restarts on its own and gets stuck with the apple logo and does nothing. When is this problem going to be addressed and corrected? I'm going to the Apple store tomorrow, I will cause **** in that store if they don't replace my iPhone. And I don't care if its software related.. I'll keep demanding a new iPhone 3G until the issue is corrected!

Add me to the list. I've just completed my 4th restore today.

Words cannot describe my frustration.

I can only implore Apple to fix this issue as soon as possilble. Apple, please do not wait until 2.1 in late September to release a fix. Please release a 2.0.x with the fix as soon as it is available.

It also wouldn't hurt to let us know if you're working on it and how long you expect it might be until a fix is available.

We are all paying customers who deserve an explanation for why this very expensive product has been plagued with such a serious flaw.

You can add my girlfriend to this list as of today. Her iPhone was stuck on the apple screen but we learned how to fix it.
Power phone down. Plug into computer hold the top power button then the home button together waiting for the phone to turn on and the apple logo to show. Continue to hold. Fend off the temptation to release the buttons and wait for the phone to power down. Continue holding until it boots up again. Continue to hold until it eventually boots to the "plug into itunes" screen. iTunes will then be able to see the phone but will say "your iphone is in recovery mode. Restore phone" Restore the phone and you're good to go.

THE PROBLEM. Her phone has been stuck on the apple screen twice since then. Resulting in repeating the aforementioned steps which is time consuming.

Yea i had the same problem. What you need to do is put the phone in recovery mode. to do this do the following:

1. Do a hard reset on the phone, hold the sleep/wake button + the home button until it turns off then release before it turns back on.

2. Plug the dock into the compute and have iTunes running.

3. HOLD the home button on the iPhone, while holding it, connect the iPhone onto the dock and CONTINUE to hold the home button until the CONNECT TO ITUNES DISPLAY APPEARS.

4. iTunes will recognize this and ask if you would like to restore it. Click restore. Then choose to restore from BACKUP! This will take a few minutes. It will fix the problem. Your iPhone will be up and running as normal and all your contacts, sms, bookmarks, settings, etc. will be intact. The only thing that will be erased is the music. But you can easily add that all back right.

OK this is insane, I've had to restore TWELVE!!!!! times in 2 weeks on a brand new phone, on my first gen I didnt have to restore ONCE in 8 months. But I think I may have found a solution, it is insane, it is more than just annoying, and it may or may not be repeatable. But anyway: When you're stuck at the apple logo (make sure its plugged in to the pc), after the phone vibrates to show its loaded press home 5 times and then un-plug it and turn it off with power and home, then plug it in and it will start to boot once you plug it in and it should successfully boot. There are probably extra steps in there and it may or may not work again, I've only tried it once since my phone hasnt bricked again since I did that. Good Luck

Add me to the list of people furious with Apple about this problem...

...I have just got back from a 2 week holiday in Spain, and on day 3 of the holiday my iPhone rebooted itself and stuck at the Apple logo.

What's more annoying, I'd purchased a data abroad plan from o2 for £50 and hardly used it because I couldn't use my iPhone because it was stuck on the **** Apple logo. o2 will not refund the plan I purchased because I had started to use it (about 2.3MB to be precise).

Good job my girlfriend had her trusty Sony Ericsson phone because at least it WORKS as a phone, unlike this **** iPhone 3G which only has one use - as an expensive paperweight.

Come on Apple, at least admit there is a problem and show your loyal customers that you are actually aware there is a serious problem that is causing your iPhones to become utterly useless.

I'm seriously thinking of gettting rid of this iPhone and getting a cheap no frills phone - at least I can use it to make calls.

add me to the list too. this is ridiculous. I keep having to restore it. this time it happened after updating apps in itunes and buying a couple apps on my iphone.

really really frustrating and it takes forever to restore, so now i'm late to somewhere i have to be because I can't go until my phone gets done installing. fix it apple!

The growing suspicion is that at least one AppStore app is not fully compatible with 2.02. So if you're experiencing this issue, you may have such an AppStore app.

In theory, this can be fixed by removing the offending AppStore app(s) from your iPhone. But that might be much easier said than done... Many have tried restoring/re-syncing as a fix, but the results have been mixed. So this begs the question... What exactly are you restoring/re-syncing?

A "factory restore" should work, since it does not restore any AppStore app(s). But a "backup restore" may not work, since that backup might already contain the same offending AppStore app(s). Meaning, attempts to restore a backup could cause the issue to re-appear. Another possibility is that the computer's iTunes profile might already contain the same offending AppStore app(s). Meaning, attempts to fully re-sync to an iTunes profile could cause the issue to re-appear, too.
