I just purchased a larger drive that I would like to use for my backup drive... i can switch the disc in the Time Machine Preference panel... but that doesn't transfer the old backups that are on the current backup drive... what is the best way to get all the old backups to the new drive... just copy them over to it manual and then select the new drive for new backups?
Are you using a hub to connect the 2 HDDs? If both drives are effectively connected to the same USB port on your mac, it will be quite slow. If you put each drive on a different Mac port, it'll be quicker - should manage around 1.2GB per minute.
Well, actually now that i look yes they are both on the same hub... oops... oh well to late, i'll have to switch that later... but i guess i am copying over about 600gb... so its quite. Got back this afternoon and the copying is all done, but i got 7 hours left of verification. ha.
And if you really want speed, FW800 is the way to go. When I got my MBP in March and had to migrate from the old PBG4, with FW800 target mode Migration Assistant got the relevant stuff across, about 42GB, in less than an hour
