I've been dealing with this problem for a couple of years, but am finally getting around to posting a question about it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been using mail.com to send and receive email. A couple of years later, I also opened a second account with them (adsfree.com), which as the URL suggests has no ads . The problem is that getting onto that site is a matter of luck. About 65% of the time, it opens immediately; the rest of the time, it takes me to an auto supply site in the UK, called "1st Choice Spares."

When I contacted email.com, they told me the problem was at my end (probably Safari) not theirs.

I've combed thru AutoFill from one end to the other looking for the site in order to remove it, but have been unable to find that name or anything even close.

Also clicked on View Source and found the following (www.sayu.co.uk), which I tracked down and found was a click-per-view marketing company — but that name does not show up in AutoFill either.

I'm guessing there's probably some way to change the scripting, but have no clue about how to do that, so am afraid I'll mess up something more important in the process.

Does anyone hve an suggestions for an easy fix?

In addition to Safari, I also have tried Firefox, Camino, Opera . . . and while it was available . . . Netscape. They all present the same problem.

Mail.com and e-mail.com are interchangeable addresses. "Adsfree.com" is a an optional service offered by both. Generally there is a charge for the service.

The problem only seems to occur on adsfree.com.

It's not a redirect page, though it does run in cycles. By that I mean, although typing in "adsfree.com" usually takes me directly to the proper site, occasionally it takes me to "1st Choice." Have no idea why, since there are no common letters to initiate an automatic fill-in.

But once I get to 1st Choice, it does not redirect me anywhere. It offers full access to everything on the site. But the most frustrating part of the experience is that from then on, there's no escaping. Each time I type in "adsfree.com" it returns to 1st Choice (no matter which browser I use).

On the other hand, if I give up and go elsewhere on the net for a while, I usually have no trouble getting to adsfree when I return.

My hunch is that something on my computer has been rescripted. I just have no idea what, but would prefer to find and replace it, rather than replace the entire operating system. Without programming skills, I don't have a clue about how to start, so am hoping for an easy fix.

I've yet to see anything else other than 1st Choice. Just now I tried the URL 20 times in a row and always got 1st Choice. When I enter the IP address for adsfree (194.154.164.82), it redirects to 81.21.76.62/194.154.164.82/index.html which then sends you to 123-reg.co.uk. Not sure if they're blocking traffic from American IP's, but it's unfortunate that I can't even verify for you that a mail service exists there.
