After my battery died, my second RAM slot says empty in system profiler

My battery is now completely dead after leaving it asleep for three days. I have removed it and am running from my power adapter. I tried my roommate's battery and it works fine. Now however, in system profiler is says I have 512 MB RAM and my second slot is empty. It showed 2 X 512 MB before the battery died.

Suggestions for getting the second chip back?

When you use your roommate's battery, does it show up in System Profiler? Under the "Battery Information", you should see something like this:

Charge Information:
Charge remaining (mAh): 4297
Charging: No
Full charge capacity (mAh): 4431
Health Information:
Cycle count: 15
Battery Installed: Yes
Amperage (mA): 0
Voltage (mV): 12440

Yours may say "Yes" under "Charging".

If your battery is not full, and your PB is not charging the battery, then there is something wrong with your DC-In Board or/and logic board. It's cheaper to replace the DC-In Board.

If you are okay with using your PB always plugged in and want your RAM back, you could purchase a 1 gig RAM stick to go in your upper slot only.

Good luck!

dafall: Many of the batteries that were supplied as replacements under the recall have proved to be defective in much the same way yours has, and some of their owners have been successful in persuading Apple to replace the bad batteries again. Call 1-800-275-2273 and ask to have yours replaced.
