Yes absolutely. You can either connect HDMI to your receiver and pass it through to the tv (assuming HDMI capability) or simply connect optical audio or indeed analogue to your receiver while connecting your tv through HDMI or component video.

read your manual, there has to be a select function on the stereo for HDMI, digital optical or analog.

Assuming that your TV is connected to the HDMI output of your receiver, you just need to figure out how to route HMDI 2 to the HDMI Output. How to do this depends on the receiver. You should search for forums that are specific your model to get more detailed help.

I have connected the atv to the HDMI2 input port on my Denon AVR-2087 receiver with a HDMI to HDMI cable. I then set up the receiver input to V.Aux with audio thru the stereo speakers. When I go to source input I see nothing on the Pioneer Plasma TV monitor. It says input source not found. What am I doing wrong? The atv is pluged into power. Can you advise?

Again, you need to read through the Denon user guide. I have an old Denon and had to go through the "menu" on the front of the Denon to identify which device a certain input would correspond with (TV, DVD, etc.). My Denon doesn't have HDMI inputs (like I said, it's old), so your model may work very differently. You need to review the user guide.

Did you ever figure out how to connect your ATV into your receiver? I'm trying to do the same thing with a Samsung receiver and not having much luck. If you can let me know that you were able to do this I'll keep playing with the remotes. I'm bound to 'strike gold' some day!
