Upconvert how? From tape? Stuff already captured?

Best way...tape upconvert via a Terranex or Snell/Wilcox at a post facility. Drawback...SPENDY.

Good way...Capture with a Kona 3 capture card. Hardware upconversion that performs very well. Drawback...need a MacPro, kinda spendy, need to rent decks with SDI out.

Decent way...Instant HD from Red Giant Software or even Compressor (with frame settings all set to BEST). Drawback...takes time and doesn't look as good as hardware....but it decent.

Or take the footage to a company that has a Kona 3 and have them do it. But really, you give us literally NO details about the footage you have...that would help.

Sorry that I didnt give enough information. I thought there is general. My apology. Some old videos we sell still on VHS. We transfer master betacam to DVCam then import to computer then save it mpeg then go back to DVD Studio pro to make final. I just wonder if it is possible convert 4:3 or 16:9 video to HD. Worth? I just finish video project (taped on 16:9) and made DVD with many functions (instructional). Thought for future if we should convert all those VHS and DVD go to HD... good idea? hope that i make sense. Smile! Guess I need to reserach more on that.

In my opinion, it isn't worth it. Blowing up SD to HD to make DVDs? That are standard def resolution (720x486)...that will make your footage look WORSE. Takig footage, blowing it up 10 times the original size, then back down. No, that would be bad. Even if you make BluRay DVDs, blowing it up wouldn't make much sense. Stick to SD DVDs and keeping the original sizes.

I only recommend upconverting footage if you are mixing it with HD footage, in projects that are mainly HD and will be output to HD formats.
