My laptop can find my router network fine. I reseted my router and Iphone but my iphone still cant find any routers. I reseted the network settings too. If I try to put in the name and password manually it just says "Joining InsertNetworkNameHere" Over and over, with no results. Any suggestions?
Me too. Just updated to version 2.2. At first it found my home wireless network but said it couldn't connect (worked fine minutes before the update). Now it can't find it at all.
Arg.
Edit: Just after posting this message I launched the mail app on the iPhone. The prompt came up to connect to my home network, but still says it cannot connect.
Confirmed! Same problem here with my iPhone 2G (1st Gen)!
Ever since I've updated from 2.0 to 2.1 I've been having this problem...
Can't get the wi-fi connection to work for more than 2 minutes!
I've tried this on D-Link, Link-sys, Cisco and Belkin routers but still no luck.
Tried restoring to 2.2 and resetting all the settings and the problem still persists, please apple this needs to be resolved and I doubt it's a hardware problem as its actually capable to connect and work but for a very short period of time!
I am in the EXACT same situation. I can't find any wifi anywhere when i can normally find about 5 routers from my room. Also my iphone from time to time goes completely black and the screen won't turn back on until i plug into the mains or my computer. But either way, think i'm going to take this amazing-when-it-works phone to a genius bar and see if they can help!
Any Update where they will fix that problem? Because it seems to me many of us have the same problem with the Wifi, meaning cant find any network anymore ...
I bought an iPhone a few days ago. Until today, wifi has been working great.
A few hours ago, wifi stopped working, the connection was abruptly disrupted. Now, it is impossible to connect again, wifi access points are sometimes listed but disapear a few seconds later. Seems that I have the same problem with a new iPhone. Even a complete reset hasn't solved the issue.
I would also like to have a say in this, as after a week of using my phone, the wifi suddenly stopped working. It wasn't until today that I could connect back to my network, but after 2 minutes the connection was lost. I don't know whether or not I should get my phone replaced, considering I have reset it, restored it, and can find no faults other than the fact that it will not connect.
I think i'll replace it. Seems to be the easiest way. On the other hand, I know that it is likely that a new iPhone may have the same issue...
As it suddenly stopped working and isn't able to connect to wifi anymore, I'm quite sure that this is a hardware issue. Today, after one night being switched off, it finds my wifi and connects, but 2 minutes later, the connection gets lost and available wifi networks aren't listed any more.
I'm having exactly this issue. Wifi was working fine since I bought the phone, this morning, wifi refuses to work anywhwere (home, office, etc) even though other iPhones connect just fine, and this one used to as well. I'm going to try a restore and then taking it back to the store...
I am having the same problem with my 3G 8GB phone. WiFi had worked great until just after the 2.2 firmware update (it had worked for awhile with 2.2). Now, I do not see the SSID of my home network. I've tried all of the suggested remedies, even renaming the SSID, restoring the phone, rebooting router, turning off WEP, etc., but nothing will make the SSID show up. Laptops find and connect to my wireless network fine. I've tried rolling back to 2.1 firmware, but I've been unable to successfully roll back. I'm not optimistic about that, since other users report the same issue on that version.
My 3G wifi works well everywhere but home (Belkin Pre-N). Lately it's been a little sporadic and wouldn't connect or only connect for a few secs. I selected 'forget this network', reselected it and retyped my passcode. It's worked very well now for a few days. If you haven't tried this, give it a try and report. I only saw one other person reporting this near the top of the thread.
Unfortunately, I'm unable to do a "forget" since I can't connect to it in the first place (or even see it in the list). I swear I did see one SSID pop up on the list after it stopped seeing my home network (when I was out), but I could be wrong. Perhaps I'll take a walk around the neighborhood and see if it finds any other networks...
After a quick walk down the street, the phone didn't see a single WiFi network. Walking the same route with the laptop (I only got one weird look) revealed at least 15 networks with moderate signal strength.
So, it appears that it is not just my home network that it's not seeing; it will not see any network at all.
In my experience, 2.2 almost has to be causing a WiFi hardware failure, since:
1. WiFi was working for awhile after the 2.2 update (so it can't just be the software).
2. After the failure, I never saw the SSID of my home network (it was a "permanent" failure).
3. I've done many restores to the clean 2.2 install (no data restored) and I have never seen my SSID show up (Again, can't just be the software).
The only way this could NOT be a hardware failure is if somehow the restore process is not completely clean, ans some settings are retained from the previous install. I don't think that's likely; therefore the most likely explanation is that 2.2 is causing a hardware failure.
If this is verified to be the case, Apple has a serious problem on their hands, and is definitely open to a class action lawsuit.
I'm going to scour the web to see how to roll back to a prior version to continue my testing, but obviously if the hardware has failed as I suspect, this will have no effect, and WiFi is permanently broken on my phone.
I was successfully able to downgrade to 2.1 with the use of...uhhh...a "helper" app, and as I suspected, I still have the same issue with WiFi. It appears to be permanently dead on my phone. My only recourse appears to be to try to get a replacement phone, but there are no guarantees that the same issue won't happen again.
Same problem with me. I contacted Apple (whose reps are...'unaware' of the situation to say the least) and they told me to do a factory restore. Still nothing. Oddly enough...when I first go into WiFi prefs after a restore, it works for a few minutes then abruptly ends.
What scares me the most is Apple hasn't acknowledged this clearly
real problem- so no fix anytime soon. Hopefully they read these threads!
