iphone randomly not getting service?

my iphone (original) is randomly not getting service where i normally get service, like my house or just around my town. The ting is, if i turn it off and on again, it will have full service again for about a half hour, then blank out again. Then, sometimes it will say i have no SIM inserted, but once again, if i turn it off and on this will fix.

how do i fix this without having to turn my phone off constantly.

hey, i'm not able to answer your question, but i am able to tell you that my phone has also been dong this too. it all of a sudden has no service where i always get full service. it won't even let me connect to a wi fi connection because it says there is no wifi available! even if it's right next to my router. i have not gotten the screen telling me to insert a sim card, but i have gotten a screen not too long ago to plug it into iTunes.

My WiFi got flaky after 2.0.2, so I did this and it fixed it:

"Forget" the network in Settings, turn off WiFi, do full reboot - Home + Power until you see white Apple. Turn WiFi back on & sign in. Problem gone.

Perhaps the same routine but with turning Airplane Mode on/off will clear up the No Service problem?
