iPhone not detected by computer. PLEASE HELP.

Now when I connect my iphone to my computer, nothing happens(no message about pictures no bubble telling me an unrecognized device has been plugged in, NOTHING). The phone itself works fine, but I can't sync at all. I have tried reinstalling itunes (although i didn't delete any remaining folders), I tried a different cable and different computer. What's wrong???

thanks for the quick response. I followed your link and saw that it was the same thing I tried before I posted.

When connected my iphone acts exactly as if nothing happened and there was no cable plugged in. The only exception ive found is that when I turn the iphone off, hold the home button and connect it via cable to the computer. Then it shows the itunes icon with an arrow and a sync cable on the screen, and nothing happens.

Don't hold back questions, I'm eager to fix this and will be checking multiple times per hour. Also I'd like to know my options for service or apple support (i dont know what to do) this iphone used to belong to my cousin but he got a new 3g and gave me his old one. I've never even had a chance to sync it so its pretty much useless until I fix this.

l2oi3,

Your welcome. The iPhone should at least show that it is charging.
Does the PC have a high powered USB port? Unplug any other USB devices and make sure the iPhone is directly connected to the PC and not plugged into a dock, hub, or keyboard.

If its plugged into a laptop try the tips in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1401

You can contact AppleCare at the number below:

The iphone does not show that it is charging, even when plugged into the wall, although it does in fact charge (i think).

It has high powered usb ports and i've been using them, no other devices are plugged in it is not pulugged into a dock, hub, or keyboard. My laptop power saving does not interfere in any way with use but i disabled and tried for good measure to no avail.

Thanks again, any more help before I call apple support?

It does show that its charging by displaying a large battery on the iPhone screen and/or a battery icon in the top right corner with charging status. This article provides more information about charging the iPhone and status indicators: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1476

Try testing on another PC or Mac.

thanks again for your your help,

I figured the battery icon at the top right would show some change when charging, but when i plug it into my laptop or into the wall or into another computer it doesn't change

I don't have any macs available but i have tried testing on another PC, equally unsuccessful.

Great News the 2nd time i called customer support after 30 minutes I talked to a representative who walked me through a number of troubleshooting steps I'd tried earlier that day and then agreed to send me a box to repair the iphone. Awesome.

Then disaster struck, I received a confirmation email from apple for the repair request, and the address is wrong, a phonetic misspelling of my street that looks nothing like the original name(although it sounds similar). I'm terrified I wont be able to get this corrected. I sent apple a message through the feedback form for applecare as their phone lines were out of regular service, but that doesn't even guarantee a reply in 24 hours. I have class tomorrow so I can't call until at least 3:30 eastern.

The mistaked street name is 'OWEN TROST CT' when it should be 'OWENCROFT CT' the repair id is D17796553. Are there any Apple reps on this forum that can help!?

You are not the only one with this problem. There is another thread on this on the site, which would get you some ideas. I can still charge my phone using an iPod cable with Firewire connector. Also, once in a while, my iPhone works with the original cable after leaving it connected to my computer for a while.
