G4 M8570 Battery replacement

Had trouble starting up- sometimes when I pressed on button the machine would turn on but the button wouldn't light and computer eventually froze. Sometimes it was just dead. To make a long story short (after power check), found out that if I unplugged and took battery out and left it for awhile, then put battery back in, it would work.

I think I need a new battery but I am having a problem finding a replacement. Can anyone tell me where I may purchase one?

Hi, Joseph -

Your G4 dual 1.25GHz machine is a Mirrored Drive Door (MDD) model. It uses the same battery as all previous G4 models except the original G4, the G4 (PCI) model.

This Apple KBase article lists such batteries -
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2295

The description is 3.6V, 850mAh, size 1/2AA (half-AA).

The last ones of those I got were from RadioShack; their part number is 23-026.

RadioShack's price is about US$16.00; you should be able to find an equivalent on-line for less.

You should check the battery specialty retailers in your area (if any) or do a web search for a Saft LS14250 3.6-volt, ½AA lithium battery, as shown here. This battery has an 1,100 mAh rating, whereas other comparable batteries (sometimes costing more) have a lower mAh rating. The greater the mAh rating, the longer the service life that you can expect from the battery. In spite of the convenience of shopping a local Radio Shack store, they typically stock a compatible "Tadiran" TL-2150 battery, that is extremely overpriced. You could probably get 2 of the Saft batteries for the same $$ spent at RS.
