Late 2005 30" Cinema Display not waking up!

When the Intel Mac Pro Quad connected to a 30" Apple Cinema Display goes to sleep, occasionally, the display does not wake up, but the computer does. I disconnect and reconnect the DVI cable and te display works again. Apple Tech support cannot tell me if it is the display or the graphics card. Their only solution is to bring the system in, which is quite an undertaking. Any others with knowledge of this problem?

Thanks

Mac owner for 15 years, first time on the forum
I have been having the same problem with a just purchased used dual 2ghz g5 with a Dell 1905FP display (display works fine on my g4). After many hours of drilling down for possible solutions on the web and then trying the many helpful suggestions, re-setting PRAM and PMU, trying different a display, booting from software disc, etc. etc., I'm no better off (the power supply had supposedly been replaced). For now I have set it to "never sleep" and at least I don't have to go through several re-boots to use it. I am very hesitant to switch over to this as my primary computer and abandon my trusty 733g4 which has run on no sleep like a champ for 7 years. As it is a holiday, I haven't spoken to mac-there's no warranty anyway--but from the # of posts about this, tech support must be well aware of this problem.

I've been having similar problems, but with a Dell 30" LCD and Mac Pro. Well, lately the LCD would shutdown occasionally (did this a.m. while working using it) in addition to the waking from sleep problem. Dell is sending me a new monitor and we'll see how that goes. However, while talking on the phone the tech asked me if I had the LCD plugged directly into the wall or in a powerstrip/surge. He said it may not be getting enough power.

Well, after, finally, getting off the phone with them I plugged the LCD into a separate line and haven't had a problem yet, although it's only been a few hours. I'm starting to think, maybe it was a lack of power, time will tell.

I replaced the graphics card with the original part # *(important I was told) and I'm up and running, no display problems for two days and counting. In my research, I came across some who had changed out the graphics card and it didn't solve the problem so this may not work for everyone. For reference, if it will narrow down what might work for you, my display would only get signal every 4 or 5 boots and almost never after it went to sleep. Upon not "waking up" after sleep, the fans would start roaring. What this would have to do with the graphics card I don't know, but the replacement seems to have worked.
Good luck

I recently purchased the 30-inch HD cinema display to use with my 15-inch MacBook Pro.

On several occasions, the screen has abruptly blanked out although the computer still runs. If I unplug the power cord to the monitor and re-plug it back in, the screen starts working again (but sometimes only briefly).

I will try plugging the monitor into a wall outlet instead of the power strip I am currently using to see if that makes a difference. I will report back. If someone else has a different solution, please let me know.

Thanks

I'm having the same problem-- it started last week. I have a mac pro tower and an apple cinema 30" display. I've had this system since summer 2006 and have never had this problem. Judging by the dates that everyone submitted questions it seems that this is a reasonably recent phenomenon for the user community. Could the problem be in a software update? I have an iTunes screen saver.
