Uniden 5.8Ghz Cordless Phones stop my Time Capsule & Airport Extreme

This is my first time post, but have frequented the forums many times for various solutions, etc.

My situation is that I have a couple of Uniden 5.8Ghz cordless phones and everytime I'm using the telephones, the wireless on my Time Capsule and Airport extreme stops working.

Both the Time Capsule and Airport Extreme status light flashes orange. When I hang up the telephone, the wireless is back up and running.

My network is set up for 802.11n only (5 Ghz).

I would've thought that my cordless phones are 5.8 Ghz which should be different to 5 Ghz of the TC and Airport Extreme?

I do not believe I can change the channels on the cordless, and I've tried changing the channel to a manual setting on the TC without any success.

Help!

you may need to uncheck "wide channel" then try a different channel. you could move the TC far away from the phone source.

If I uncheck 'wide channels' then doesn't that drop my speed?

I don't wish to do that.

Could someone answer why if my cordless is 5.8 Ghz and my TC is 5 Ghz, why one will affect the other?

I have no receptions issues with my cordless phones, its just my wireless is affected...

If you're in the US, the TC, when operating in the 5 GHz radio band, can use channels 36-48 or 149-165. These have a frequency range of 5.180 - 5.240 GHz and 5.745 - 5.825 GHz respectively. Most 5.8 GHz phones operate in the same upper channels (157-165), and could be the reason you are getting the interference.

If your phone has the option, try changing channels on the phone to see if this will help.

Thanks for the clarification, but unfortunately I'm unable to change the channels on the cordless phone.

I will try and maybe change the channel settings on the TC to the lowest setting and hopefully stay away from the cordless frequency range.

I will post my results.

I'm curious to know if you think you might be having some sort of interference (whether from cordless phones, or from other nearby wifi networks), is there any way to detect this accurately?

I'm guessing you would need some sort of hardware device, but I've also heard from people having network interference that they could use a wifi scanner to check for other devices.

Trying to figure out what channel to use without having to go through all the trial & error.

Hey Billymav,

I am having the same problem with my Uniden 5.8 ghz phones.

Waiting to hear if changing the channel settings on TC helped and
what did you change the settings to??

Hi Richard,

I played around with different channels, but I still the Uniden phones cause the wireless to drop.

If you have better luck than me, then please let me know...
