Getting Rid of Photos and Files

Just wondering what the best way to get rid of unwanted photos from iPhoto.
I'd like an easy procedure that actually gets rid of the file not just the "photo."

Also, where can I find the actual files that are in my iPhoto? I guess I could just use the "get info" option when I click on a photo but I think I've tried this and it did not work.

MacBook 13.3/2.4 -4gB RAM, 160 gB HD, Mac OS X (10.5.4), 80 gb iPod, iBook G3- dual USB, iMac G4,

select the photo and depress option (alt) and command (apple) and type the delete key or drag the photo from an event (deleting from an album only removes the photo from the album - not the library) to the iPhoto trash (in the left hand source pane) and empty the iPhoto trash (iPhoto menu ==> empty trash) - this removes the photo from iPhoto and deletes the file

I tried the first procedure that you recommend and it removes the folder from iPhoto. Does it also remove the file so that it's completely gone?

I have photos that I want to completely get rid of. They take up valuable space on my hard drive that I need to free up. And they are photos that there is now question about - I want them destroyed.

The files are stored in the iPhoto Library in your Pictures Folder.

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:

For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.

User uploaded file
Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!

To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.

This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail

If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto. With 10.5 you can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:

If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.

Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS

Other options include:

1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.

2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.

3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

Please read the last sentence and if you do not understand ask one more time

Yes, just so I am perfectly clear. I drag and drop an unwanted photo is the little trash can in iPhoto. Then I "empty the trash" and this removes the photo from iPhoto AND the photo's file from the computer?

I'm sorry that you find this confusing

YES

Why don't you give it a try?
