Did you ever find a solution because I now have this problem...
I upgraded to 8.0 yesterday... Purchased 3 albums and successfully burned them (not knowing of this problem)... Today, I purchased 3 more albums and started to burn them as well... It burned once, no problem... But when I started to burn the 2nd album I started getting the 4280 error...
So basically, it decides to burn a total of 4 discs and then craps out on me all of a sudden?¿? It would be different if this happened the FIRST time, but after burning 4 discs; it makes this problem worst for me... If I knew this would happen, I probably would of waited before purchasing the 3 addition albums I got through iTunes...
What's worst, I didn't even burn the BEST album first...
*sigh*
TPjr
Did you solve your problem? I have just started having issues burning CDs. I too downloaded updates to Windows and the latest iTunes. I haven't been able to successfully burn any CD's.
Grr... any solutions yet? I'm having the same problem. It was working just fine, then I start getting error 4280. Then the other night it was working -- today it's not again.
Oh, and when it was working the other night, it reorganized my playlist. I thought maybe this happened because I chose data cd? But I'm making a playlist for someone's birthday and it needs to be in chronilogical order, and when iTunes burned it, it totally scrambled the order of all the songs.
Need the same help as everyone else. Upgraded to latest iTunes a week or so ago and tried to burn a CD a few days ago...keep getting error 4280. Just trying to keep this thread alive looking for an answer. It looks like this has been an ongoing issue for a long time - why doesnt Apple define a solution anywhere??
Actually no...sorry... Its funny and sadistic at the same time (my experience)... After I posted my first message, I decided to just restart my computer... And magically, I could burn disc's again... So I finished burning the 2 albums I bought and afterwards I burned 4 more disc's...
Today, I wanted to burn a few discs for a co-workers daughter and got home (30 min ago) and burned the 1st of the 3 discs... And now, I can't burn the remaining two... And AGAIN, I didn't burn the best album first...(
lol?)...because I wasn't expecting to run into this problem again...
I thought that if I restart again, it would reset again like before... But nope...still getting the 4280 error... So I came here to check and see if a solution was found...
Well at least I got 7 discs burned before I got the error again... But I told her I would have it by Thursday... Might have to give her my burned copies until I can burn a copy for myself later... >:o(
The thread title so holds true for me... Error 4280 but not all the time... This could become more than a little frustrating...
I have a similar problem. I have 2 computers both now on ITunes 8.0 one runs XP SP3 the other Vista Bus. SP1. Songs purchased on the XP computer can be burned without any problems, the vista computer starts making a playlist, then stops and does not give any error message....it just does not burn.
Anybody has similar experiences? Thanks
I posted a thread almost six months ago about this, YES ... SIX MONTHS AGO, and I still cannot burn discs ... period. I posted a similar thread about a week ago and received no help what so ever because everyone's having the same problem, and like me, they don't know what to do.
I could burn discs fine *not that I burned a whole lot*, until I upgraded two upgrades ago, then it just refuses to let me anymore. I checked to make sure my drivers were updated, cleaned out my computer, opened my disc player and sprayed it out with canned air, the list goes on, but to no avail.
It is just horrible, horrible customer service for iTunes to know about this problem and not have someone come on to the forums and offer a solution.
Sorry for the rant, but it's so frustrating! ... (^_~)
If anyone has any suggestions, ideas, tips, ANYTHING, please let us know~
I've done a little bit of searching on google and had no idea that this problem has been happening for YEARS... The ONLY solution I saw was for this Sony Driver, which i'm sure everyone here already seen... I haven't had any problem burning until iTunes 8.0...
Anyway, I tried that (Sony Drive), even tried the RegCure (whatever) but it wasn't exactly "Free", so that was a dead end... I even tried lower burning speeds...still nothing... As you know, I have two discs left to burn for a friend...
I just gave up on iTunes and burned it with my Windows Media Player... Just lucky for me, I burn all my purchases from iTunes to an Audio CD in case something happens to my CPU (also so I can import to my Xbox 360)... And once I do that, I re-import them so I can listen to the albums on my WMP...
But as I was saying, I just used my WMP to burn the album that wouldn't burn in iTunes... After everything burned fine, I went back to iTunes for the other disc and suprise, suprise...it burned without any problem... WTH, right?¿?
It may have something to do with the discs i'm using... Because I inserted a Maxell Pro discs to "test" the burn out in iTunes... It burned without a hitch (before I used the above method) but because of this, I only let it burn for 5 seconds; because it usually cancels out in 3 from the error... I was only trying to test the burn, and was surprised that it started burning... It was a better quality discs and I didn't want to burn the album that I was testing on it... I tried to cancel but 5 seconds was too long...ruined the disc..
lol
So for clarity the disc i'm getting the error with is a Memorex disc... And its possible that they are to cheap...which was pointed out during my research online... But the problem with that theory is, I already burned 12 discs using those Memorex discs; so why NOW do I constantly get the error?¿? I couldn't be, totally the fault of disc quality...but then again who knows...
All I know is, as of now...I was able to burn another CD on iTunes after burning 1 from WMP first... Since I don't have anything else to burn (or that I want to) at the moment; as far as I know, i'm just waiting to get the error again... Which from my history could be 4-6 more disc down the line...
Another possibility could be that I actually burned the CD when I had WMP open... Maybe iTunes burning needs a "crutch" to be free from the error and after you burn one; you can burn a few CD's without worry of the error...
Sorry to be throwing so many "theories" out there, but having something to work on, is better than nothing... Once I have other CD's to burn, i'll come back with an update and tell you how many burns I got with iTunes before I got the error again...
Disclaimer:
This is just my experience... I realize that many people have tried all sorts of CD-R discs and different burning software/hardware/whatever and they still get an 4280 error... I'm not trying to create false hope, as i've seen being pointed out from frustrated users...
So to summarize, individual results may vary... :P
Same problem here. Just updated to itunes 8. Was able to burn a disc at first. But now, not at all. We get error 4000 but it seems to change from what I've read on other posts. Let's get this thread alive and keep sharing possible fixes. So far itunes help hasn't been very helpful and they didn't seem to know that there was an issue.
I with the rest of the posters here. Version 8 upgrade was the point where I started to have trouble burning.
Hello! Apple Supoort & Apple Developers!!!! Where is the support & the fix?? This is clearly an iTunes application issue. Too many users on a variety of hardware.
i've been having a similar issue since upgrading to itunes 8. i can burn 1 disc successfully but on the very next one i try to burn it says "burning disk....initializing" at the top and then it sticks. no error message, it just sits there forever. i have to cancel and then itunes locks up completely. i find once i shut everything down and restart the machine, i can burn a disk, but only one. so basically now to burn a disk from itunes, i have to restart my machine between each one. yay.
Hi, I just spent hours on-line with tech support. After uninstalling & reinstalling i-Tunes we came to the conclusion it won't burn on Sony CD's. I got the same error (4280) and the same burn, not burn prob. Don't throw the CD's out. They are blank. It burned on a cheap (Hi-Val) CD with no prob. All this started with the new i-Tunes 8.0 (8.1). I have like 100 blank Sony's. I hope tech support is right and I can just use a different brand. Hope this is helpful.
Hi, After reding other entries I guess it's an i-Tunes issue...not a Sony CD problem. I am on hold with support and am hoping to at least try to get some attention for this problem. Good luck to all.
