When buying a "used" iphone, does the warranty transfer with it?

Question

When buying a "used" iphone, does the warranty transfer with it?

Say a friend buys the new iphone for 199 with his upgrade.

He can then sell it to me for whatever he chooses and I can then register this with ATT with no issues correct?

Will the warranty transfer from him to me?

With as many problems as these iphones have, and obvsiously they are using cheaper products to manufacture them, the warranty is what im really concerned about.

Has ATT offered any kind of insurance on the iPhone yet?

The warranty is on the phone not the owner.
If there are issue with the phone just return it to an Apple Store they can check date of purchase and provide warranty if it is still within 1 year.

How would you circumvent the activation requirement? Your friend will be required to activate the phone at purchase on his/her account and provide verifiable details to do so.

PsychedelicWonders,

To my knowledge, AT&T does not offer insurance for the iPhone. You can however obtain insurance for the iPhone from other insurance companies, such as State Farm.

The warranty already attached to the iPhone travels with the iPhone, no matter who owns it currently.

Right, he would have to register it in his name, but then after he sells it to me, according to ATT i should be able to just register it to myself.

How much has the insurance worked out to per month for the iphone? Anyone pick it up?

I'm debating buying a broken iphone for cheap, making sure its within the 1 year time frame and just having apple replace it.

That might be the best/cheapest route possible.

how Can i verify the date of purchase for an iPhone to make sure it is within the 1 year time frame before I decide to purchase it?

Obviously any damage except water should be covered right? Screen malfunctions, getting hot etc.

So why not?

Does the warranty cover cracked glass or just glass that isnt responsive to touch?

i see alot of iphones on sale on ebay for a reasonable price, a lot have cracked screens.

How is this viewed under the warranty?

Warranty only covers manufacturing defects or issues that are the responsibility of Apple.
It does not cover accidental damage or cosmetic issues.

Refurbs do come with Warranty, but still it only covers manufacturing defects / issues.

Ive looked on apples website and they dont show any refurbs, just a warranty package.

I'm totally fine with this, even if they are a 1st generation.

Does anyone know where to find the refurbs at?

I believe some AT&T Corporate stores may carry refurbished iPhones for purchase. Beyond that, while not refurbished, I would suggest looking on eBay, Half.com, or some other auctioning site for one in good condition.
