Largest size for a video on a simple video webpage

Hello everyone.

I'm wanting to set up a simple video page to show off my editors reel. However, I have done some searching and am confused as to what is the largest feasible file size for a video on a iWeb page. Naturally I want the video to be of the highest quality as possible and am concerned when I was hit with the pop-up that recommended a 10 MB file size.

Mac pro, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

Hey Ghouls,

10MB is the recommended limit although you can have more. Depending on how fast your server is I would limit file size to 50MB progressive movie that plays as it downloads. I wouldn't put anything over 10MB if you are using MobileMe to host your site since MM is slow slow slow. With compression and reduction of dimensions you can have a smaller video at a higher quality with the same file size. I would recommend progressive download movie encoded in Flash.

best of luck to you my friend.

Certified nailed it.

It really depends on whether you're using MobileMe or not. Here's a couple examples of what I have going.

Here's how 75megs of videos works on MobileMe. The mounting video is the largest at 43megs.

And here's how 170megs of video works on my own hosted acct. The highest qual vid (HD) is Somewhere I Belong at 62meg.

More Tips!!!

With Flash Player 9 or higher QT h.264 is now supported as playback format. _Read here_ for more info.

What this means is that you can export your movie as an h.264 then change the extension to .flv and it will play as a Flash movie with Flash Player 9+

You can find many flv players online. Here is a nice xml-based flv player it's very easy to setup. unzip the file, edit the xml to have URL for your uploaded flv movies, upload the swf and xml file, and embed the swf into your iweb page via html snippet.

enjoy!

Isn't building websites a creative endeavor instead op pressing buttons and cry for help.

I asked a simple question about what the largest video file size people seemed to be using for streaming content. I know the file upload message of 10 MB is only a recommendation and that you could put larger files than 10 MB. There isn't much "creative endeavor" I care to do when quality of the video matters so much and is really the only thing I will ahve on the webpage.

Sorry your post came off as a plug offering no help but I'm sure you can see how it would. I asked a question and you post links to your websites saying "check these out to inspire you!" lol
