Is anyone else here seeing zalloc related panics?

I am getting more frequent Panics as well. Wonder if it has anything to do with iPhone, which I recently bought. Below are my logs.

1. Yes, its running mac os x server, so it needs to be connected to the network to serve.
2. Yes, it has 3rd party software. but curiously, the Panics occur, even when nothing is running and the machine is sitting on login screen.

I use cacti (cacti.net) to track machines via snmp. its not using anything fancy, other than built in php, built in mysql, and macports distro of rrdtool. I have been using cacti for 5 years, starting on tiger, and never seen this issues until Leopard, and x86. I have a G5 server running cacti, it has never KP'd while running leopard server.

You have the infamous "dust bunnie" X1900 that needs cleaning every 3 months, along with 8-core 3GHz to add a little extra to warm any room that isn't climate controlled. And only 4GB RAM which is as minimal basic as you could get.

And what you've said, sounds like a 10.5.4 and Intel / Universal Binary and whether there are any plug-ins or scripts that work in PPC but not UB or don't like to be running under Rosetta. Rosetta caused a lot of trouble with early Mac Pros running CS2.

Apple Hardware Test and Memtest give everything a clean bill of health.

Oct 16, 2008 8:59 AM in response to The hatter

The latest machine thats crashing has an ATI Radeon HD 2600. no dust bunnies, since the machine is < 2 weeks old
The computer is in a climate controlled room (A well cooled Library). no over heating issues

There isn't any PPC binaries running at all, i.e no rossetta.

Ran AHT the day I received the unit. for quicks. This problems has poped up on 3 different x86-64 machines, one first gen mac pro, one current mac mini (core2duo) and this lates box:

Hi. I have gotten this (zalloc/kalloc retry fail 3) three times in the past week on my 10.5.5 (non-server) MacBook Pro x86_64. Never before that that I recall.

So far it has only ever happened at night, while the computer is awake but display is asleep. I didn't keep track of which process caused it each time, but last time it was coreaudiod.

I exercise my machine VERY hard during the days (literally a dozen and a half apps open and often one or more that are sucking up all available CPU cycles and swapping RAM in and out. And what the heck do you mean, 'zalloc-based software'? It appears that either coreaudiod (which is about as Apple as you can get) is 'zalloc-based software' or an incorrect error message is being generated, so either way I don't think your comment really applies.

Unless this is a different problem that just happened around the same time and with the same error messages, I suspect that it happens with Mac OS X non-server as well.
