Right amount of Hard Drive Space

I think my ipod is not registering the right amount of hard drive space. I have the 30 gigabyte and I have 6 movies so far. Its coming up with 26 gigabytes leftThat went unchanged after I put some movies on it. What do I go by?

Also how does the ipod allocate hard drive space? Does it seperate into 2 different sections?
Or is it all in one so you can have more music than video and vice versa. Any help is appreciated.

It uses the same section for both music and videos so you can have all 30gb/60gb devoted to music (video) if you want

On my 40 GB Ipod (3rd Generation), when I rearrange the order of the songs in my playlists (not adding any new songs)it actually shows that I am increasing the amount of space used up on the ipod. Similarly, when I delete a playlist it doesn't free up any more space on the hard drive. Is this an ipod problem or an itunes problem? Do you have any ideas how to remedy this?

well for your first thing... thats normal... 28.7gigs is normal space left after software... and then there is the movies... but my ipod did that second thing too... i added something and it didnt register.
