"Unable to launch the application" error on FCS client

"Unable to launch the application" error on FCS client

I have a client machine that has the Java Final Cut Server Client application installed on it, and every time I launch it, I get an error message "Unable to launch the application". I've tried deleting all the relevant preferences, and reinstalling the Java update (not to mention the client application itself). Does anyone have any suggestions?

Have you got the spec for that system? Win/Mac etc. Is it on a different network and so on.

It's a 17 MacBook Pro, running all the updates (10.5.4, FCS 1.1, Java 10.5 Update 1, etc.)

I'm having the exact same problem on our assist station (MacPro 2 x 2.66 dual-core, 5gig RAM, 10.5.5, all updates). It installed no problem on our edit station (newer 2 x 2.8 quad, 10gigs, same OS)... same system configs on both machines!

Any help would REALLY be appreciated!

It's possible that this is network related. Are you using a fqdn, or an IP address? If you are not using an IP address, try that and see how it goes.

Are other machines able to log in?

We're using static IPs.

The assist station is able to see the Apache web server by going to mediaserver.local. It can also connect for filesharing.

Yes, "Edit1" is able to connect and install just fine. Assist2 can connect and download the java app but can't actually RUN it :S

Ah, ok.

Instead of using 'mediaserver.local', use the IP address instead. IE, 1.2.3.4/finalcutserver

And use the IP when you log into the Java Client.

Hooray!

There appears to be something odd sometimes with Bonjour and Webstart. Using either the IP or a proper fqdn should usual get around this.

Looks like I am having the same problem. Only thing is that I tried using the ip address as suggested and I am still getting this message. Any thoughts?
