winbindd causing new CPU (fan runs to 6000rpm)

over the last few days, i've been hearing my macbook fan spin up high when I'm not even using it. Each time, i've found an instance of WINBINDD taking 90%+ of the CPU time in Activity Monitor. Stopping the process clears it until the next day.

I've noticed it only happens at home. When I'm at work it only shares a private network with one only macbook and doesn't do this. My home network does have some windows stuff on it, i understand winbindd is part of samba?

Anybody have any ideas? Thanks

Macbook (2.4 Ghz), Mac OS X (10.5.2), 13in, 2GB RAM, 160GB HD, 8x DL-Superdrive

Are you using a domain controller on your home network? If not, it might be a good idea to verify your SMB settings. Winbindd manages connections to domain controllers, and would not normally be used on a network that does not have a domain controller.
