macbook pro keyboard backlight keeps on turning off and on, why?

Recently, I sended my macbook pro to AppleCare for a trackpad problem. As soon as I got it back, I noticed that when im in the dark and when the screen brightness is all the way up, the keyboard backlight starts to turn off and on. Sometimes the keyboard light will stay on, and when im trying to lower the keyboard light up and down, it wouldn't let me. The only way the keyboard light will stay still is if I lower the screen brightness and then I can lower the backlight keyboard settings.

Is this normal? Or am I having a problem? I'm also noticing that the spacebar is sounding a little squeaky.

Go the the Apple Store and tell them the problems...the should fix it...

I've also found the keyboard lighting to be buggy. In my case (10.5.3 MacBook Pro) I cannot get the lighting to stay off. Here are the steps: In relatively dim conditions:

o Uncheck "Illuminate keyboard in low light conditions"
o Keyboard lights go out
o Place hand over left speaker
o Keyboard lights go on again

Anyone else seeing this? Or is it just my computer?

Hi

Try opening system preferences and going to your keyboard mouse section. Under the keyboard section uncheck "illuminate Keyboard in low light conditions." This will turn off the keyboard lighting. From there, try adjusting the keyboard lighting manually with the function keys on the top (f9 f10).
As far as turning off and on goes, there are sensors in the top case that turn the illumination on and off depending on the light. If you want to keep the lighting on all the time you can slide the option bar in the system preferences keyboard section to never.
When your screen brightness is all the way up, I'm guessing your ambient light sensors are saying there is enough light and therefore not turning the backlighting of your keyboard on.
