French Fold Brochure Template for Pages 08

Beginning to see the flexibility of Pages 08 for brochures. Wanted to see if there are template sources for a 8.5 x 14 (or larger) paper to create a french fold brochure. In landscape mode - fold in half - then fold in half opposite direction. Should end with 8 panels with one used as mailing information.

I created one, but was hoping to find some pre-designed templates that would improve my limited design skills. thanks

Do you know Cocoa Booklet application. With this application it is possible to make booklet. I use it very often. In the original Pages document I set the font size to 16 or 18 and I do the pageout setting. In the print menu choose PDF, and there chose Make a booklet (because CocoaBooklet puts a plu-in int the printing system).
Once the booklet is done you just have to print it taking care of the even and odd option.

**,t it would be usefull to have the possibility to do that right there with Pages.

Yes, looked at cocoa booklet and looks like the answer for a booklet. I'm more interested in finding design templates that support the 8 panels with a french fold brochure. I've currently created two pages with a rudimentary design layout to provide the 8 panels- (better template would be nice).

To create my brochure I only need to print the two pages onto front and back of one page (two sided printer). Does cocoa booklet help me with this? thanks

Cocoa booklet is designed to put each small page at the correct location on the entire sheet of paper.
In French we call that "imposition".

To build your layout a table with the correct number of cell would be a fine starting point.

Given that, it's just a matter of taste.
What may be good for me may be awful for you.

I'm just learning about imposition software and want to understand the practical application of Cocoa Booklet. That said, would my steps follow along these lines -
1. create 8 pages with dims of 7 x 4 (or slightly less)
2. develop my layout and content for each page
3. export as PDF
4. Use Cocoa Booklet to print all the content on one page (approx 8.5 x 14 --front and back. Then fold the document in half and then in half again in the opposite direction

If this is the approach and result using Cocoa Booklet I could see where it would be easier. thanks for insight.

Go Dawgs!

That's not what Cocoa Booklet is for.

Why not create your own template?

1. The first thing is to take a blank sheet of paper and fold it the way you want the card to be and, while folded, mark each quadrant as to what you want to be there: cover, inside message, back outside, so that when it is opened you can see which quadrants are which and which are upside down. Don’t worry about the upside down part. We’ll take care of that later.

2. Start your layout with a blank Layout template and set the page size to Legal in File > Page Setup. Chose the orientation to coincide with your blank “dummy.” Be sure Rulers are showing. (View menu.)

3. Click and hold in the left side ruler and drag a blue, non-printing guide line to the halfway point .Click in the top ruler and drag a guideline to the other halfway point. You now have your quadrants marked off. At this point save as a template (File menu). (You will need to make separate dummies and templates for vertical or horizontal cards.)

4. In your new template, and referring to your dummy, insert into the corresponding quadrant a graphic or text box (or both) for the cover (front outside) page. Arrange as you wish.

5. For the inside page do the same. Now here’s where we take care of the upside down part: If there are several objects, click on one and shift click the others so that all “handles” are showing and Group them in the Arrange menu.

6. Go to the Metrics Inspector, and with the grouped objects selected, click on the up arrow in the bottom right corner. The one that says “Flip.” This will flip your grouped objects upside down. (If you need to edit later, a double click will turn it right side up so you can make changes. A click outside the graphic with invert it again.)

7. Repeat 5 & 6 for any other upside down quadrants.

8. Print.

It’s easier than it sounds. You can do it.
