unknown error occurred (0xE800002E).

After downloading updates to applications and syncing to iphone I got error message: Some of the applications in your iTunes library were not installed on the iPhone "(my name) iPhone because one or more errors occurred.
Example of error:
"The application "(the updated app)" was not installed on the iPhone "(my name) iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE800002E)."

The applications however were still on the phone after the update and I was able to run them. I did a restore of the iPhone from the latest backup and the error message still came up. The more updates I receive the more error messages I got. I'm up to 19 app errors.
However, after deleting one of the 19 applications that were listed from my iTunes library and then syn icing to Phone again after erasing it I did not get the error. I now how 18 errors.

I called up apple tech support that they could not resolve the issue.

Anyone have a solution?

i posted this approx 2 weeks ago the day after 2.0.2 came out, and here rechecking these posts, it seems it hasn't been addressed yet: as i also shot a help email to the apple support folks being unresolved still.

i'm somewhere in the 23-ish range now on this same error, as when done doing a sync it shows this same error message on a long list also.

the general 'condition' of the operation of the phone seems shaky, as many of the apps quit themselves in mid-flight during usage within the program.

my hopeful goal is to share with you folks and with those who are hired by Apple to read these 'boards' cuz it seems hard to believe that Apple is Not having similar problems in their test labs that they are trying to resolve. something as generic as an 'auto-sync' update failing on an App Store app with a generic 3G phone would be a widespread issue, unless someone has found a cure?

I have a similar problem, here: since I updated my 1st gen to 2.0.2 iTunes always fails at updating App Store applications unless I first delete the old version from the iPhone (that means... all application's data are lost!)

It only happens when an applications gets updated: normal synchs are fine

1. Delete app from iPhone
2. Delete app from Mac ~/Music/iTunes/Mobile Applications
3. "re-purchase" app (it'll say you already have, just continue and it'll download the latest version for free)
4. Sync iPhone and your fresh app will be there

I'd suggest that you do this 1 app at a time for safety sakes

... you mean *manually remove* directly from iTune's "Mobile Applications" folder and not from iTune's "Purchased Applications" window, right?

and... what will happen to application's data (documents, settings etc) that each application stores *on the iPhone* in it's own folder?

... in the while... I performed a DFU restore of 2.0.2 fw. first time an application gets an update I'll see what happens

thnx!

Yes.

I don't have any apps that do this, but others have said to make sure you have a non-iTunes backup of your data/app.

... so... yesterday (remember? my phone's fw was dfu restored the day before) one of the apps I use got an update and...

a) updating *from the phone* took forever and a while then failed (note to Apple: you should really give us a mean to abort an update other than... performing a force-reboot wich, btw, I didn't)

b) downloaded from iTunes then synched to iPhone: "Application xy was not installed because an error xxxxxxx (sorry: not shure about the error code) occurred" but nonetheless... the application actually was updated on the phone! :-/

... seems iTunes is getting more and more confused than myself! 😉

Yes.

I'm going to modify my unqualified "Yes" to do it in BOTH places. I ran into the error today and it didn't clear up until after I'd also deleted the app in the iTunes Applications Library window.

indeed after removing the apps from the phone, the iTunes apps window and the mobile applications folder (deleting said app files from the trash before proceeding) the phone syncs successfully without any errors, it's really more work than I really wanted to go through to fix the problem, but until the next patch is released, hopefully this will stop the error without any need to repeat.

p.s. if any of that seems scrambled blame it on the fact that it's 2 AM and I've got so much caffeine in my system it's a wonder that my heart hasn't exploded 🙂 oh the wondrous world of bosses with unrealistic timetables
