Transfer of AppleCare Protection plan - possible?

I bought the iPhone EDGE soon after it was released.

I then got the AppleCare Protection plan, which essentially adds one more year to the existing 1-year you get with the iPhone.

I just bought the 3G iphone, the EDGE is in the box, and will probably just sit there forever.

The "first" year hasn't even expired yet from the EDGE.

Can I transfer my AppleCare Protection Plan over to my new 3G, to extend it one year?

It makes no sense to buy another plan - because again, the EDGE first year hasn't elapsed yet.

Can someone chime in...

THANKS
