Realtime audio problem

I imported a series of .DV files that were captured by Imovie HD, into final cut. I just dragged the clips from imovie and put them in a folder and then threw them in the timeline. But the audio always needs to be rendered. It should obviously be able to be played in realtime so I can sync it up to the master audio. Any suggestions?

Mac Book Pro, Power Mac G5, Mac OS X (10.5.3)

iMovie captures a muxed .dv file. You need to convert it to DV/NTSC or DV/PAL quicktime.

There are two options.

1. Use QT Pro to do the conversion

or

2. Recapture the footage using FCP.

You really ought to read the manual - particularly the section on acquisition of material. It will be useful.

If I use quicktime to convert the DV into DV NTSC, will the quality be maintained or will it degrade as a result of a second DV compression pass?

All it will do is demux the file (ie create separate audio and video streams). No mucking about with the image quality is taking place.

fwiw, if you were obsessed with image quality, you would not use DV from the beginning. lol.
