Connecting my iMac G5 to the internet using a third party router
I have an iMac G5 using (10.4.11) and a Linksys Wireless-G Router (WRT54GS). Currently I have my iMac directly connected to the router and a Macbook and PC using the wireless connection. I'd like to move my iMac to upstairs and leave the router and modem downstairs. When I unplug the router from my iMac it will not find a connection wirelessly. How do I set this up?
This very well could be the problem. I know on mine it was an option that I didn't get, and when I open my computer up, I can see the vacant spot for it.
If you go to "Apple > About this Mac... > <More>" you will be able to browse to your hardware options, and see exactly what you have. Do you have any wireless card showing up?
One more thing. How do I know if my computer is compatible with the Airport Extreme card? And do I just need to purchase the base station or just the card? Is the card a DIY thing or should I get someone to install it?
I've purchased and installed a new Airport Extreme card. The problem is that while AirPort is showing up and listed as on in System Preferences>Network, it isn't finding mine or anyone's network to join. I have a MacBook and iPod Touch that are both connected to this network and found it easily. I've gone through all the settings on my laptop and made them exactly the same as my desktop and there's still nothing ....
I'm having the exact same problem, except that I do have a wireless card installed. It's a G5 with iSight. It shows that I am connected to the network, good signal, but there is no internet connectivity. Any ideas?
