SAMSUNG CLP-315W - Unable to connect to printer:

I setup network printer (Samsung 315W)
Printer work fine for PC but on mac ( I have 2 mac's 10.4 & 10.5) I can't print

Printer add IPP
http://192.168.1.9:631

Print using: CLP-310 Series

Any help please

I looked at the manual for the printer - no Mac info!

If you are going to use IPP, then the format of the URI is:
http://192.168.1.9:631/printers/queue_name

With no Mac info in the manual, I don't know how to find the required queue name. How did you decide to use IPP? If there is a Mac/linux manual add-on, you should find info in there.

It is possible that you will find a proprietary comm protocol in the More Printers section of + printer - like Samsung TCP/IP. Is that there?

Only driver for this printer must use CLP-310

What is "Queue:" and "Location:" in IPP for Mac

in address I can type only http://192.168.1.9:631

i can't type http://192.168.1.9:631/printer/SAMSUNG CLP-315

A glance at the manual for this printer shows that it supports Bonjour connections. So you should be able to find the printer through the default browser. Have you tried that?

I add printer and driver fine
Problem I have is "Unable to connect to printer: ..."

It send to printer information & after ....Unable to connect to printer: will retry in 30 sec.

-Printer is ON and active

How did you add the printer? What steps did you go through? If you used the wrong procedure, it may not print, even if the printer appears in the printer list.

Have you asked Samsung support?

Here is step I did
1> setup printer IP address (change Dynamic to local static IP 192.168.1.9)
2> I print report using Firefox Printer Control panel
in report I got IPP printer URL

3> In OS X go to Printer & Fax
a: add printer "+"
b: select IPP protocol "Internet Printing Protocol"
c: in address type my IPP http://192.168.1.9:631 ( I see msg: Valid and Completed address)

d: Name: type name " SAMSUNG CLP-315W"
e: Location: type my "WORKGROUP"
f: Print Using: Select a driver to use > "CLP-310 Series"

---- Done ---
4 Print page .... 😟 I got error: Unable to connect to...)

You should answer Bruce's question - don't select IP printer & IPP after "+," to see if Bonjour works.

When you select IPP, you don't need to enter the :631 - OS X does that for you. You do need the correct queue name.

Yes, you probably should reset the printing system by control-clicking on the printer list. Then you can add the printer again, but when the dialog come up, select Default. It may take a while for the printer to appear in the list, but once it does, adding the printer should be automatic. Just click on the name.
