Macbook Pro won't start-up (black screen)

Hello,

I'm having some problems with starting my Macbook Pro
specs of my macbook pro are here: http://support.apple.com/kb/SP13 (15,4 inch 2,2 ghz)

My macbook pro won't start up anymore, i press the start-up button, it makes the 'krie'-sound then the vans start spinning slowly and then he get's quiet. (screen stays black and the light at the mousepad is on).

I tried:
-Connect it to power and wait 15 min. then try again -> same result
- hardware test (installation disc 1 and then press d) -> screen stays black but the disc starts spinning
- pram-reset, -> same result

the only thing i didn't do is check if my ram-sticks are still in position (i never bought new ram, but maybe it started to get loose)

what to do?

A good place to start would be this article:

Work your way through it step by step, and please post back if you continue to have problems.

Good luck!

ty for the advice,

i did all the steps still the same result: total black screen, and only the krieky noise and the fans and then the fans stop and the light under the touchpad is flicking.

(the installation disc was sucked in to my computer, but it doesn't respond on the eject button)

so... shall i bring it to my closest apple store then?

I was assuming the "krieky noise" was the start up chime, but now I am wondering if it is more of a beep? See if what you are experiencing sounds more like this article:

Intel-based Mac Power On Self Test RAM error codes

If so, you might try reseating your RAM and see if this helps. Fortunately, RAM comes with a lifetime guarantee from the manufacturer, so if your RAM has gone bad, you should be able to get free replacement sticks.

Once you've reseated your RAM, try again to start up, and see if you can eject your disc.

Good luck!

I have a macbook pro operating 10.4. All software is updated. I was typing an email and the screen went "flicker flicker black". Light a lightbulb burned out. I've tried rebooting. I've tried resetting the pram. I tried starting up from the installation disc. I get the start-up chime. And the whirring. I'm able to hook it up to my bubble mac with a firewire and use it as a hard drive. I can see the shadows of my desktop folders. And when I started up from the install disc I could see the shadow of the dialogue box. I accidentally clicked on the dashboard and could see the shadows of my dashboard items. But the screen is basically black and I can't see anything. Any ideas? Thank you for anything!

Just google Nvidia 8600m, and problem, or oh god my screen is dead, and see what comes up.

Once again, if you have a Macbook Pro from mid-late 2007, chances are you have a bad chip. They will replace your logic board, with another bad chip, which may or may not go bad. It's an obvious issue, Nvidia admits they have a problem, and Apple is just going to quietly resolve individual problems.

If your computer turns on but the screen doesn't, it's about 99% likely it's the GPU. Go ahead and let Apple replace it. Oh, and if you have a MBP from that time period and don't have apple care. GET IT NOW. You will most likely have a Black Screen Of Death at some point, and Apple care is cheaper than the repair (which may or may not work). Some people have gone though three logic boards. Good luck.
