Major Prolems With External Fantom XR Rack and Logic

Hello All! I am really in need of some guidance on this one. I have been using a Roland Fantom XR as my only external midi module. I am in the middle of a big project and everything was working well until the stangest thing starts to happen. Once I go down a few channels on the fantom and I picked a tympani for instance, the sound of the patch would be loud verby springy and distorted- That is the only way I can explain it- this sounds no matter what patch I choose?
This only happens to one specific channel. The previous channels like 1-4 and after sound as they are supposed to. In a panic, I ran thinking it was definitely the Fantom and bought a new one with money I didn't have. I plugged the new one back in my studio and all worked well last night- I started again today and after about an hour channel 3 now is all screwed up. Could this be a logic thing? I seriously doubt that both Fantoms are bad, especially since I just bought a brand spanking new one! I tried everything I can in terms of switching midi cables, changing ports on my motu, re-initializing the fantom, buying a new one, trying another logic session, restarting and etc. Nothing seems to work- if it is something in logic I will be the happiest guy because I can then return the new one and use my old one! Sorry for the long post but I need to explain all the steps I have taken, Any Ideas-thank you so much! Brett

I'ld say: Test the same machine but with another (simple?) MIDI-sequencer. On
http://www.kvraudio.com
it should be possible to find a 'basic' shareware/freeware midi-sequencer.

It may also be good to see what MIDI-data is being sent to the FFX, there may also be some free/shareware midilogging program (there was for OS9). You could probably find it at KVR too.

What happens when you power down/power up the FFX? Does it go back to normal?

regards, Erik.

did you try moving the midi channels around? If midi channels 1 -4 are working.. rechannel Logic's tracks and set up the proper patches on Fantom. and use channels 11- 14. Does that work?

If you only use one channel, does it go bad? Move and re-assign until you go thru all midi channels.

Look in the event list being sent from Logic, make sure no program, or sysex commands are being sent. It sounds like some program commands are being sent to Fantom, turning reverb on, and up loud. There are no plug-ins in logic are there?

Does this do this only in one song? Can you load in an older project and send midi to Fantom properly. If so, that means the current song file is somehow corrupted.

Worst case scenario, for right now to finish project is record on channels 1-4. Turn that into audio, and then repatch. But you do want to figure it out.
