Restoring a single file from a File Vault in time machine

I need to restore a single preference file from the TIme Machine.
I use FileVault and when I go more than 1 day back, all I have is a single file (user.sparsebundle)
How do I get to individual files?

It is unfortunate that this straight forward explanation did not replace the "warning" that is published, because the solution is not that complex......
