Keeping my Mac safe at college/help

I have been reading up about laptop locks and stuff that lock your computer to a desk or something for example. These different websites keep talking about security slots? As far as i know my air does not have one? Am i right? Is there any other way to secure my air? I'll be staying in a dorm and have been hearing about theft so i just want to be on the safe side! thx in advance!

there's a guy making a metal bracket that allows use of a kensington lock with the mba, but it isn't exactly a design icon...

you could put it in a steel mesh bag when you aren't using it (or use your own bag and get a mesh outer for it), and lock the bag to something...

...if you attach a motion-sensitive alarm to the bag (move it, LOUD noise) it will make it harder for someone to atack without detection

there are alarms you can fit to the usb port, so if someone grabs it they'll go off, but that's just letting you know someone stole it, and there's software you can install that will try to connect to a network and raise an alarm to help track it down

but if the area isn't secure, a determined thief may have the time and the tools to cut steel cables, pick/drill locks

I'm a uni student as well, and I know what your talking about! Several people have walked off the street into our libraries etc and just picked one up and gone out again...

There was a case in melbourne, where a van with 3 guys in white coats walked into their computer labs, picked up a number of computers and stole them, and no one asked questions. Obviously, because they looked like they were some sort of technicians...

If you think later on you don't want something physical, maybe something like 'iAlertU', a free application that if someone picks up your laptop when you have left it, it will sound an alarm like a car. It's very loud lol It also takes a photo of the person who picked it up! (you can change the settings so it doesnt etc)

Hope this helps

You should try out the program, iAlertU which is a free download I found. I am new to this mac, but I must say that is the coolest thing I have seen yet.

Think of it as a touch sensitive car alarm for your mac. It even sounds like a car alarm, and since apple decided to include a movement sensor in your laptop, if someone was to pick it up, all of the sudden they are walking around with a laptop that is going off like a car alarm.....

of course it doesnt work if your laptop is off, but it should help.
