trying to download itunes, windows installer package error

Have you tried downloading multiple copies of the installer file?

ya i am getting the same error..i uninstalled itunes and now for some reason right after attempting to download my sound on my computer is not working not a clue why....help please

I, too, keep getting the same error message. I tried uninstalling iTunes and QuickTime and reinstalling without any luck!! Were you able to find a fix?? Anybody??

I had the same problem trying to install version 8.0.1, I went to my control panel then to add/remove programs and I removed the windows installer from my computer. It does give a warning that certain programs may not work but it did not effect my computer. I tried the install of iTunes again and it worked. My computer used the iTunes installer since the windows installer no longer existed. After iTunes update was completed I then reinstalled the windows installer program.

I received the same error message:
"there is a problem with this windows installer package. a program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. contact your support personnel or package vendor."
I tried moving through the steps in this document:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1406 and I am still getting the same message. Not sure what to do next. Can anyone help?

It works!!!!!!! Don't know what was wrong or how it works now but I'm just glad it does!!
I completely uninstalled Quicktime Player and iTunes, deleted any files related to them (followed http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1406), installed Quicktime standalone, then finally installed iTunes 8.0
Hope this works for everybody else!

This will most likely solve your problem.
Go to "Control Panel", "Add or Remove Programs", highlight "Apple Software Update", click "Change", click "Repair". This will repair any lost or damaged files in the Apple Update area which is most likely where the problem lies. Once that is complete, download the newest version of iTunes again and proceed with uploading it.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. Very simple fix ... after installing and uninstalling, first iTunes, then QuickTime alone, etc. etc. I'm sorry I didn't find this solution 3 hours ago!!
